Public School Lodges Council
Origin and Membership
In 1909, the Lodges of Westminster, Charterhouse, Cheltenham, Sherborne and Clifton Schools formed the Standing Committee of the Public School Lodges, with the objective of promoting and disseminating Public School Freemasonry. The title ‘Public School Lodges Council’ was adopted in 1936.
The PSLC currently has 33 member Lodges (including one for Installed Masters). Invitations to brethren of member lodges to attend sister PSLC lodge meetings are regularly circulated and warm hospitality is guaranteed.
Festivals
The first Festival was held in 1910, at Westminster, with further festivals in 1912, 1913 and 1914 until the First World War caused their suspension. Festivals resumed between the wars but were again suspended from 1939, with a break until 1957. Since then, the Festival has become an annual event.
The 2017 Festival was held at Charterhouse under the organisation of the School’s Deo Dante Dedi Lodge No.2885; Oundle is currently scheduled to host the Festival in the Lodge’s Centenary year of 2037.
Royal Arch Chapters
There are Royal Arch Chapters associated with Charterhouse, Sherborne, Merchant Taylors’ and Taunton lodges. There is also a Public School Chapter attached to Westminster.
